Who said mobile games aren't real games? Here are all the biggest stories from today, October 4, 2021.
Today's final pre-release trailer for Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl gave us a great look at all of the fighters in action, including more gameplay from the most recent character revealed, Toph from the Avatar: The Last Airbender series. The trailer shows off a variety of stages, including ones based on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Spongebob Squarepants' home in Bikini Bottoms. Ludosity also recently confirmed that two new characters are set to be revealed as DLC fighters coming to the game post-launch. Jimmy Neutron anyone?
The mastermind behind Super Smash Bros. Ultimate tweeted a cryptic hint about tomorrow big reveal. The final Smash Bros. DLC character will finally be unveiled tomorrow, and Sakurai is encouragin everyone to watch the presentation even if you don't play the game. Sakurai tweeted "In one day, the final fighter for Smash Bros. Ultimate will be announced. Even if you don't play the game, if you're interested in gaming, please watch it." Sakurai then added "The new fighter may be a character you don't know or different from what you expected. I hope you enjoy watching the broadcast. I also had a lot of fun recording it." We won't have to wait long to find out who the final fighter is, as the Smash Bros. Direct is scheduled to stream at 10 a.m. EST / 7 a.m. PT tomorrow morning.
Two trailers for an upcoming game called Wanted: Dead premiered at Tokyo Game Show last night, showing up the hack-and-slash action title's sci-fi world. In Wanted: Dead, an elite task force called "Zombie Squad" is assembled to take down a cyborg in the not-so-distant future where tensions between synths and cybernetically enhanced humans are heightened. The game is being developed by a group of Ex-Ninja Gaiden Devs who worked on both Dead or Alive and its spinoff, Xtreme Beach Volleyball.
A new report from The Wall Street Journal revealed that Apple has become the biggest player in the game industry by bringing in $12.3 billion from the app store alone. Sensor Tower estimates that 69% of App Store revenue comes from video games, which would work out to $8.5 billion in game sales. That figure is higher than Sony, Nintendo, Microsoft, and Activision's annual revenue for games, making Apple the biggest company in the game industry.
And finally, New World players are reporting temporary bans from the game, but they don't know why. The Amazon MMORPG hasn't been without its growing pains throughout its first week post-launch, but this particular problem has a lot of players scratching their heads. Banned players have been gathering on the game's Steam page to try to figure out why they've been banned after getting a simple message that only said it was for "disruptive behavior". Now some players are worried about getting banned without understanding the reason why, but hopefully Amazon makes the user policy more clear in the future.
